This study aims to explore how fathers describe their emotional experiences of parenting. The research participants were fathers who have children under the age of five (1-3 years old). The data collection method used a semi-structured interview technique conducted online with reference to the Parent Development Interview-Revised (PDI-R). A phenomenological approach and iterative coding techniques were used to analyze the data and determine themes. The results identified six main emotions: joy, pain/difficulty, happiness, pride, annoyance/anger, and guilt based on four father’s experiences in parenting: father-child relationship, child-focused experience, father-focused experience, and father role fulfillment experience. The implication of this study is that people can know and realize that fathers feel a variety of positive and negative emotions in their relationship with children, so that they can comprehensively explore the role of fatherhood.
Fadhilah Khoirunnisa Annisa Hasna Fadhilah Zainal Abidin Copyright (c) 2023 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 2023-12-30 2023-12-30 9 2 110 124 10.21776/ub.mps.2023.009.02.921 Preface to MediaPsi 9(1) 2023 https://mediapsi.ub.ac.id/index.php/mediapsi/article/view/920
The contributions to this edition of MediaPsi are summarized in the opening paragraph. In order to feel career satisfaction, teachers need a measure of subjective career success. Achieving subjective career success requires career optimism so that teachers can view their future career positively, focus on developing their potential, and plan their career path. The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between career optimism and the eight dimensions of subjective career success among teachers. The study used quantitative methods and quota sampling techniques with a total of 300 participants. The result of the study showed that career optimism is significantly related with the five dimensions of subjective career success, (i.e., authenticity, growth and development, influence, personal life, and satisfaction). The development of online technology has encouraged researchers to develop online-based psychological intervention approaches for people to utilize independently (self-help). However, research remains inconsistent regarding the effectiveness of this approach. This study sought to examine the effectiveness of online self-help in reducing depression using a meta-analysis approach. Specifically, we systematically collected and analyzed 16 scientific publications. Findings show that the effectiveness of online self-help interventions in reducing depression is low. This may be due to the influence of several issues, such as the circumstances of the participants and the implementation of the intervention. The results of this study can be taken into consideration for practitioners or for individuals who would like to implement self-help interventions.
Alicia Ananta Yudiarso Copyright (c) 2023 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 2023-12-30 2023-12-30 9 2 140 151 10.21776/ub.mps.2023.009.02.901 Loneliness as a predictor factor of suicidal ideation among college students: A study of Padjadjaran University students during the Covid-19 pandemic https://mediapsi.ub.ac.id/index.php/mediapsi/article/view/894
The pandemic situation required the majority of universities to carry out online learning, including Universitas Padjadjaran. The research sample was 171 active students from Universitas Padjadjaran, with 49 male participants and 122 female participants. 20.47% of participants had severe loneliness and 19.3% of participants had high level of suicide ideation.
